Daskeyboard is a black featureless keyboard. Designed to creep out your friends and make your tyoing better. I've tried switching to a Dvorak keyboard more than once; this has sort of the same effect as you don't know what key is what. Supposedly, you learn how to properly touch type rather than peeking at the keys - because peeking won't help. In my case, and judging from past experience; I'd just get frustrated. Although I did just print out a Dvorak layout the other day in anticipation of another attempt at learning the Dvorak layout.
For those of you who don't know; the Dvorak layout is a smarter layout. The standard qwerty keyboard was apparently designed to slow the typist so that the early manual typewriters would be less prone to jamming. The end result worked; but leaves the user not reaching their maximum speed and with more chance of RSI. I've experieinced occassional wrist pain; due to the job I was working; and once I realized what I was doing wrong, I corrected my motion and it went away. I was operating an IBM 3890 if you're interested; and I was rushing to fill the cheque trays. I was slamming handfulls of cheques in far harder than I needed to; and ended up hurting my wrists. I eased up on the motion and the pain went away. Other than that; the wrist pain is pretty minimal. I'd say frequent but very slight. Back to Dvorak; the layout is a smarter design than qwerty; but converting peopel en mass from one keyboard layout to another is not an easy task. Think VHS versus beta; VHS was better but just plain won due to being available everywhere. It is an easy tak to switch the layout; every major OS has a Dvorak layout. I found it easy to pick up but frustrating to stick with it. My touch typing method doens't involve numbers or symbols; so when I do any programming or data entry I have to revert back to qwerty because I have no clue where anything but the numbers are in the Dvorak layout. Also; gaming can be a huge pain and some keys are just plain goofy; I'm really used to where CTRL-C/X/V are for example; and remapping games (WASD anyone) is also annoying. But I think Dvorak should be more prevelant than it is; it is a neat layout.
