The story on BBC news titled Can the planet feed us? is the sort of thing that keeps me up nights. How long before our consumer driven habits push the planet past the point of return? The next wars will be fought over clean water. And we've only managed to get it this far by 'helping' nature cope; from the article: "...half of all the commercial fertilizer ever produced had been applied since 1984".

I don't know; call me jaded but I think we've pretty much boned this planet. I hope we find another one soon. Like this story about Fire retardants found in breast milk and supermarket food. That is so wrong. At least we won't have to worry about breast milk bursting into flame anymore. Anyways, mild rant over. I'll keep using my compact flourescent lights (which are full of mercury, oh well) and try to eat less meat and use public transportation and reduce, reuse and recycle and hope for the best.

I've turned this on to get rid of the bastard spammers. Sorry to all the valid posters. Ok Lorne? It is only valid on the older posts though, so maybe people won't really be bothered by it.
