About

This little weblog serves two purposes: First, I want to have a live environment to test the new version of Pivot, as it progresses. Secondly, I needed a place to log about stuff i don't want to bother the readers of my regular weblog with, like news about PHP, browsers, CSS, weblog-tools, webdesign and the like.

+ 0 - 1 | § Good article on Windows Vista features

Why Windows Vista won't suck is a really good overview of the new features and improvements in Vista. (more)

+ 0 - 0 | § Wrote the SCJA exam...

... but did not get the required 68%. In fact; I only got 58%. I'm free to try again in 2 weeks. I imagine I will write it again; I can't see why I wouldn't. The exam marks break down the area that I need further study in quite well. I have the basic OO down and did pretty well in the UML; but my Java OO implementation was not so hot (I grossly underestimated the level of detail this exam would go into). It's the 7th certification exam I've written and the first failure; so I don't feel too badly about failing.

I do feel badly about the $138 cdn that I spent; and will have to spend again to rewrite this exam. (more)

+ 0 - 0 | § Heating with Biofuel

Even though the local Metro Transit buses have stopped using Wilson's Biofuel; we've started getting it for our heating and hot water. Our first delivery was today. I figure that a bus engine is far more complicated than just burning it; maybe I'm wrong and our furnace and brand new $1616 hot water heater will fall apart in a few weeks.

Let's hope not.

+ 0 - 0 | § Site moved; thanks Spammers.

This is a useless post; because if you are reading this you already know that I've moved my site. My last hosting site was giving me grief because of all the traffic. The excess traffic was generated by spammers trying to post their wares in my comment section. Even though they could not do so; the attempts were using far more CPU and bandwidth than I originally gave credit for. Keep in mind; the attempts were in the tens of thousands per hour on some days. One day with many hours in that range had 30 percent of it's traffic from one single IP. If I had realized this and blocked the top 10 or 20 IP's completely; I likely would have not had to move my site. (more)
