About

This little weblog serves two purposes: First, I want to have a live environment to test the new version of Pivot, as it progresses. Secondly, I needed a place to log about stuff i don't want to bother the readers of my regular weblog with, like news about PHP, browsers, CSS, weblog-tools, webdesign and the like.

+ 1 - 0 | § Relationship tips

This made me laugh. Somewhat rude and likely not suitable for workplace viewing. I just want "bang-bang-bang."

+ 1 - 0 | § Countdown to global catastrophe

And the good news continues; not only are we causing great damage to the planet; this article states that we are nearing the point of no return. And I'll quote the last paragraph of the article (althought the whole thing is worth a read):

It goes on: "Above the 2 degrees level, the risks of abrupt, accelerated, or runaway climate change also increase. The possibilities include reaching climatic tipping points leading, for example, to the loss of the West Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets (which, between them, could raise sea level more than 10 metres over the space of a few centuries), the shutdown of the thermohaline ocean circulation (and, with it, the Gulf Stream), and the transformation of the planet's forests and soils from a net sink of carbon to a net source of carbon."

+ 1 - 0 | § Science: Dancing Robots Help Preserve Japanese Culture

From the I can't believe I'm not making this up department comes the headline Dancing Robots Help Preserve Japanese Culture. Go, go, Mr. Roboto. I wish I was a dancer so I could be really offended or something but this just sounds ridiculous. To quote one of the linked articles:

The number of humans that know and practice Japanese traditional dancing is declining rapidly and many Japanese have seen it only at local festivals. Using Kawada's HRP-2 Promet humanoid, a $484,000 robot, Ikeuchi has painstakingly found ways to reproduce the physical moves of Japanese dance in a robot.
How many people could you train to dance if you offered to pay them a portion of $484,000? Or even just pay existing dancers to learn the particular dancing in question? And I have an image in my head of the animatronics parodied in the Simpsons - you know; they moved awkwardly and caught fire. I for one, do not welcome my Dancing Japanese Overlords.

+ 1 - 0 | § Stash Tea

I wanted something hot to drink the other day, but it was too late for coffee. Lori had some rather light sounding decaffeinated stuff with name like 'Blueberry' and 'Licorice Spice'. I found I rather liked it; but as with most beverages I drink; I tend to down the whole thing too quickly - in the manner one might drink a glass of water on a hot day. That is part of the reason why I drink the darker beers, as it allows for a longer time to drink them as they have more substance. Anyways, back to to the tea. The brand is Stash Tea and they have a startling number of flavours. I am sure that many are drinkable (the 'Licorice Spice'one did not do me any favours but the Blueberry I actually enjoyed). (more)
