About

This little weblog serves two purposes: First, I want to have a live environment to test the new version of Pivot, as it progresses. Secondly, I needed a place to log about stuff i don't want to bother the readers of my regular weblog with, like news about PHP, browsers, CSS, weblog-tools, webdesign and the like.

+ 1 - 0 | § Helix version 1.5 Incident Response & Forensics

Helix 1.5 is a bootable CD based on Knoppix with a rather frightening array of software. I have not tried this but it looks pretty damn sharp.

+ 1 - 0 | § WHO warns of dire flu pandemic

WHO warns of dire flu pandemic in this article from CNN about the bird flu. Death toll between 2-7 million. In 1918, 50 million lost their lives to the Spanish Flu

+ 1 - 0 | § Drive (someone) insane today!

drivemeinsane.com is a niftly little page. I like the idea; if I get some time I may do something similar.

+ 1 - 0 | § "Can the planet feed us?"

The story on BBC news titled Can the planet feed us? is the sort of thing that keeps me up nights. How long before our consumer driven habits push the planet past the point of return? The next wars will be fought over clean water. And we've only managed to get it this far by 'helping' nature cope; from the article: "...half of all the commercial fertilizer ever produced had been applied since 1984". (more)

+ 1 - 0 | § New version of Pivot running

Bravo to the Pivot crowd. I am running the new beta of Pivot. I highly recommend it. Very light (no SQL; php only!), easy to use, instantly functional. I have been planning on making a web page along the lines of "free stuff that doesn't suck"; Pivot would certainly be on it. Along with Gallery for a free web based photo manager, http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ for cross-platform java based bit-torrents, and others that I am somehow forgetting right now but will add to the list as I think of them.
